How the numbers are worked out

Price. Base prices per type and length are anchored to public 2026 Australian market guides, which put entry camper trailers and pop-tops at about A$35,000–55,000, mid-range family caravans at A$55,000–90,000, and hybrids at about A$45,000–85,000. Options are priced as typical factory-fit premiums. Dealer pricing, freight and on-road costs vary, so treat the range as a starting point for a conversation, not a quote.

Weight. Tare is built up from a typical body weight per foot plus each option. The suggested ATM adds a typical payload allowance for that type (350–450 kg). Ball weight is shown at 8–10% of ATM, a common target for stable towing. Read Caravan weights explained before you match a van to a tow vehicle.

Power. Usable battery energy assumes 90% depth of discharge for lithium and 50% for AGM. Solar assumes 4.5 peak sun hours and 25% system losses on a sunny day, and a quarter of that when it's overcast. Daily use starts at 350 Wh for two people (lights, pump, phones, fans) and adds the fridge and other loads you pick. See How to size batteries and solar.

Water. 15 litres per person per day without a shower, 25 with one.

NZ self-containment. The check only looks for the key equipment: a fixed toilet, a fresh water tank and a grey water tank. A green warrant also needs enough capacity for three days at full occupancy, ventilation and rubbish storage, and an inspection by a certification authority. What the green warrant requires.
